We flew into Preveza to start our fourth Lugger sailing holiday with Dragon Drascombe. We were met by a charming young Welsh lady, Hayley, who took us to our first Taverna Apartment. Hayley and Matt are new signings to the Ionian Lugger Experience, this due to the popularity making the workload too much for Phil. At the Gialos Apartment we were met by Phil and Matt and being lunchtime we were treated to a fabulous Greek lunch, menu too extensive to go into here! At lunch we were able to gaze on our Lugger which was moored, very conveniently, to the jetty beside our table.
Having rested after lunch, we took our Lugger 'Annie B' for a shake down cruise and to admir ethe beautiful yachts moored in the bay close by. Annie B had all the safety equipment necessary, including bow and stern anchors, plus plenty of mooring warp.
We spent a couple of days in this area renewing ourselves with little swimming coves that the big yachts can't get into. Generally in the morning we had to motorsail due to little wind, however in the afternoon we mostly had a brisk sail when the wind got up.
After a couple of days we then set sail for the magical Isle of Ithaka, where we spent ten days at the Frikes Apartment. Sailing every day, and in the evenings dining in the lovely tavernas, and renewing old acquaintances, with who we had met on previous years.
The ten days went by far too quickly, and it was time for our sail back to Vliho Bay and the Gialos Apartment. Here we spent another couple of days sailing, swimming and eating to excess! Eventually all good things come to an end and we had to start packing for our homeward journey.
We both love this holiday and hope to be able to book for next year. Being on the wrong side of 70 we take each day at a time!
