The preparations for this summer started back in Wales last winter with the cleaning of sails, Rigging and equipment. Matt and Hayley have joined me this summer to help with the continued popularity and extended programme that we now offer. Matt worked back in Wales over the winter with me assisting with my cabinetry projects. With my cabinetry projects extended for London clients, Matt and Hayley travelled over ahead of me to start the season off, I flew out for one week in early June then returned to “Wet Wales”.
Despite the “gloom and doom” in the media during the winter of a 'Migrant Crisis' in the Eastern Aegean the area of the Ionian has not been effected, unfortunately, this small affected area is labelled as 'Greece'. Its a terrific country full of history and welcoming people.
Our June groups had a good start for weather, not too hot and light afternoon winds. A few took advantage of cheaper flights and used Corfu, flying from Dublin and UK regional airports to save upwards of £180 per person. Its a pleasant way to start your holiday, getting the 2 hour ferry from Corfu to Igeomenitsa, and being personally collected by our mini bus for the drive south to Lefkada. Your first taste of Greek cuisine will be the 'Meze' and drinks welcome at the Taverna Gialos this before settling into your apartment/villa.
This coming week we again welcome back the Wilson family from Glasgow along with Martin and Dorothy from Northern Ireland; for the latter it's their fourth year to “Sail in the Sun”. Both will have two nights at the Gialos then sail down to Frikes for the annual two week Ithica expedition. Kephalonia is a brilliant quiet area to sail and enjoy.
For those who have followed my website, it is my second grandson, Lucas's first birthday, whilst in early October it is that of that of his brother Felix, both quite soon we hope will be “Sailing in the Sun”.
If you are considering a relaxing holiday in the sun for 2017 with a classic Drascombe Lugger moored at the bottom of your garden, then take advantage of early booking discounts and competitive flights to Corfu.
Hope to see you soon. Phil, Matt and Hayley.
Blog for “Sailing in the Sun” 2016.
This summer was a brand new experience for us as we joined Phil for the first time in working with the Drascombe luggers. It was early June and after a busy week of preparing and launching the luggers, they were all ready for the 2016 season ahead.
Running the first part of the summer was a daunting task for us both, however we were quickly put at ease by the wonderful groups that responded well and supported us. Although every group varied in their sailing abilities we enjoyed sharing all their experiences. By the end of each groups holiday we hoped that everyone had enjoyed themselves and had fantastic memories to take away.
We have had some amazing people visit us so far this summer and feel we have made not just aquaintences but friends that we hope to see again next year.
Matt & Hayley.
Our day sailing programme introduced this summer has helped John and Ann who live on Lefkada have daily tuition in a lugger, certainly anticipating continuing this sailing programme for expats and locals.
Just a quick email to say many thanks for arranging for us to have a Lugger Introduction day, we met with Hayley and Matt yesterday who showed us the ropes and we had a marvellous sail around Vliho and lunch at Geni. Hayley and Matt are superb ambassadors and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting them and our afternoon Luggering about.
We would definitely like to take a Lugger out for a day or two but as our daughter is due to get married (here in Lefkada) in just over two weeks we will likely be too busy until August. It would be great to meet up for a beer when you are over later this month and look forward to meeting you then.
Many Thanks John.
