For those out there that have joined me over the past 6 years, ‘Luggering about in the sun’, yes, it’s my sixth year now with 6 Luggers and a monster rib - Warrior Spirit is an ex RNLI B Class Atlantic 21 rib.
This summer has been very busy and successful, starting in mid May and the last charter ending in late September. Groups have enjoyed the free and easy approach to my charters, sail when you wish, there is no set daily programme, or just enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of your apartment and its pool set in the quiet surroundings of Geni. There is so much to see and do around the island of Meganissi, quiet coves and bays to anchor in and swim, or go ashore and picnic without being disturbed by charter yachts.
A number of returning groups have ventured further afield and sailed down to Frikes on the island of Ithica where they stayed with Peter at the Frikes Bay Suite for the duration of their holiday. This is a great area to explore. This summer the Wilson family returned for their 4th year and embarked on our 3 week, three islands adventure, starting with getting the Nidri ferry to Frikes where the Lugger was moored, having a week there. Their bags were then taken by Warrior Spirit further west to Eufamia on Kephalonia, where they had a lovely apartment just off the sea front facing the old harbour. The winds were good all week, they even made it down to Sami which is on the southerly tip of the island. For the third week they returned to Lefkada and stayed with Franz and Poldi at Geni Garden, this was their second stay at the apartment. So a very successful adventure, both Neil and Jean retired this summer so it was a very special holiday. Well done to them.
Another returning pair, Andy and Phil, always looking for the best wind took off one day and made it across to Kastos and Kalamos returning quite late and very tired. They are dead keen on making the most out of the day.
The Luggers again were used constantly as ‘water taxi’s’, the short motor across in the morning to the bakery and village shop was the norm, this being mainly the guys who would escape for an hour or so and leave the girls to come-to slowly. Harries coffee and pastries were also an attraction, what a way to start the day. In the evening Lugger groups would motor down to the Gialos Taverna for supper. Its outside restaurant and pontoon faces west, so it was just magic watching the sun disappear over the mountain opposite. Again as always Costas and his mum Arastia were so welcoming, this along with the great food and wine.
The boats are now back at my new winter storage yard near Nidri, all cleaned, sails and rigging in their bags ready for my return in May 2018.
With flights now online for next summer there are good flights to be had, a recent booking had 2 return flights from Manchester with Easy Jet for £312 , this for late June / early July. So why not browse the rest of the website and book your dream holiday for 2018, Luggering about in the sun ... it’s just great!
I look forward to meeting new and past groups in the sun in 2018.
